Ds going mainstream

Ds has learning, difficulties. ( just wairing for diagnosis) His current school no longer meets his needs ( as his staement changed) SO when asked what school we would like for him We asked for a mainstraem school with
support. Which we have been allocated aacording to his statemnt. However I recived a call off the school saying that I had not actually applied and would I be able to come in and disscuss this. Correct me if I am wrong but why would I need to apply if the LEA has already allocated Ds this school. What exactly are my rights insisting Ds can go there and can they refuse him a place and if so on what grounds?

not an expert here just a mum with special kids! as i understand it the lea should have contacted them with a copy of the statment to let them see if they can meet his needs you should have been sent a copy of there response. then its put on the statment. if it on his statment they would have a very hard case to prove for refusal. it could just be best to be amicable with the school and go along to see what they have to say. i know some schools like to think they can pull the wool over some sen parents eyes and think they dont understand the rules etc you just have to let them think there way and try to get along with them after all you dont want to get thier backs up before your child starts i am sure there will be plenty of battles ahead so choose which ones are really worth fighting for.
