IEP S and not getting help required

hi i have a 13 year old son with adhd,he has had special need help at school since he was 6 and has a IEP.his last IEP stated he has a reading age of 7 years an 8 months and a writing age of 7 years and 4 months.his secondry shool have now stopped his extra help because they say he does not need it,i have a meeting tomorrow with the school to discuss this and his behaviour because it is now getting worse in class .i feel this is due to him struggling with the work but the school do not think there are any issues ,i would be grateful for any advice

Sounds to me like you need to get pushy.

With those redaing ages they can't claim he doesn't need support. Are these recent assessments? If not ask for updated assessmenst to be carried out, you need to establish what his levels are to be able to argue that he does need help.

Ask for a referral to the Educational Psychologist, you may not get this but it will make them sit up and realise you are going to start demanding things and they need to do something to keep you off thier backs.

If behaviour is becoming an issue and his SEN is not being addressed then you have a strong case against the school should they ever tyr to use sanctions such as exclusions. make sure they know you knwo this. Ask who the govenor for SEN is, write to that gov and th chair expressing you concerns about the mangament and lack of support for SEN in the school and that this is impacting o behaviour in school.

I agree with smiley. I think you will need to start to push for additional help. If the school are reluctant to refer onto an educational psychologist then you can contact the LEA directly and ask for a referral. If his reading /writing problems are so delayed you can ask for a statutory educational assessment. IPSEA (see their web site - also have telephone advisor - free) are brilliant well worth a phone call to help you make informed decisions about how to best support your childs SENs.
