Hi
Does anyone have any experience of this school? If so for which difficulties?

Also if you're happy to say does your LEA fund it?

Thanks

Hi daysoftheweek,
my DS went to FHS for year 5 & 6. He is now in Yr 7 at a state school. It was a great experience for him. Still have friends with children there.
We did not get funding as I did not want to try for a statement, but some of the children were funded by their LEA. He is dyslexic.
Let me know if there is anything else you want to know.

DS2 did years 3,4 and 5 at Fairley House and then went back into mainstream. It was brilliant for him and now in year 10 he is managing fine with no extra help - will probably get a set of A/B gcses next year which is something I could never have imagined him managing during those first years of school.

FH laid a firm foundation which mainstream school could then build on and they had taught him strategies so he could cope with learning.

He is dyslexc and dyspraxic, but not statemented no LEA funding. But there were a few in his year who were.

He got all the extra help he needed during the school day including OT which meant when he came home he just had a small amount of homework which was at the right level for him to doon his own.

Not sure what would have happened without FH, he simply was not accessing the curriculum at all.

Fairley House is a brilliant choice. The individual help and tailored learning that the pupils get is not matched anywhere else as far as I can see but it is pretty expensive if you are funding it yourself! I Have a son who is there now and wish I had known about it when my dyspraxic daughter was younger as she is still struggling at nearly 18yrs old and in her last year of school.

I have twin boys, now in Year 11. Both went to Fairley House for Years 5 and 6. Both are dyslexic and dyspraxic.

I cannot praise them enough. DS1 improved his reading age by 18 months in a year and DS2 by a staggering 2.5 years in a year.

Both before and after Fairley House their reading age has gone up by an average of 3 months a year.

No statementing I am afraid.

I am very interested in your experience of FH. We are considering it for our DS who is 9yrs. He is dyslexic and I am particularly keen to get his reading age up. Did your boys reach a level where they were able to access secondary curriculum by the time they left or did they need more support.

Does anyone know of a school like Fairley House in East or North Hertfordshire or Essex? My d/s has severe dyslexia and adhd and is really struggling in mainstream school (he's in Year 5 and still on P levels!). He has a statement but LEA has refused special school - we are appealing to the Tribunal because there's no way he'll cope in mainstream secondary. I just haven't been able to find an appropriate school in Herts. Thanks.
