Anyone used this for reading help for a child about to go in to year 2 who is really struggling..

we only used Kip McGrath for secondary school education but it was very good and there seemed to be lots of small children going in to do English at the same time in a different room. Hope this helps.

It might be worth asking the teacher if they can recommend someone to help with private tutoring which can be done at home though.

Put kip mcgrath into mumsnets search facility and you will see there are heaps of threads about it (dont take it as a criticism of your thread though! I just know there is a vast wealth of opinion on mn about this topic)

THere are some great resources - books, internet etc that you can use with your child

"Learn to read at starfall" is one

Go to the library and see if they have any books at about your ds level for you to look ast together

Most importantly try not to panic

I'm an independent reading tutor and I occasionally get children who have been to Kip McGrath classes. The parents say that their child was expected to work in a group of children with very different abilities. The tutors aren't remedial reading specialists.

IMO, KMcG is probably ok for those children who just need a little bit of confidence-boosting extra help but, if your child is really struggling with the basics of reading, nothing can beat 1-1 with the expertise of a specialist tutor.

my son is in Yr 4 studying in the special needs school because of his mild autism. He has improved so much now, but teachers are not pushing or challenging him so i am tutoring him at home but i am getting very tired after tutoring him. Wondering if Kip McGrath would be useful to him. My son has started reading simple words. In numeracy he can do simple multiples and divisions. Is Kip McGrath good for him or private tutor?
I live in sutton coldfield, Birmingham,UK.
