What do you think about my dd?

She is August summer born i had her start reception a year late when she turned five. She had a severe language delay at the age of 3.5 but grew out of that by 5.

She was not able to integrate and play with children she didnt know well but had a few lovely friendships at nursery.

She was a high flyer when she started year R. I was told she was gifted and talented.

Then covid happened in reception year. She suddenly fell apart. Got lots of sensory, clothing issues. Started to refuse school. Had open eczema

Ops posted to soon!

Had open wounds over 90% of her body. Started to have horrendous meltdowns over minor things, Inc the colours of her plates.

Struggled with every transition inc going out and in from breaks.

In year 3 she was ok. Year 4 was horrendous. She was suspended three times in three months.

However she is in year 7 now. She is extremely popular. Has tens of friends of both sees and has zero issues keeping or making friends. She is a extrovert. She plays football with the boys at lunch and walks to and from school with her girlfriends.

I keep wondering how being so good at making and keeping friends fits? She has had a amazing school report. I was told her attitude to learning is highly rare its so good. This is someone who was almost expelled in year 4.

Both brothers have significant SEN and ehcps.

Her brother saw a top paediatrician from St George's privately at Harley street and I was told even though her scored over the cuff for DSM5, she wouldn't get a diagnosis as he was too good and making and keeping friends but I know the autism diagnosis has changed innthe past ten years.

Personally, I would seek an assessment. I think there is more than enough in your post to justify pursuing that.

I think an OT assessment would also be a good idea.

Some autistic people are extrovert and have lots of friends. It doesn’t mean they aren’t autistic.
