ELSA school support

My Y7 daughter came home with a letter from school asking for permission for her to attend an ELSA group once a week for 6 weeks.

This has come out of the blue for us. We’re don’t know what triggered the invitation. I’m interested to hear about others’ experiences of their children attending these sessions. Do you think the sessions were useful?

Happy for her to have the support available. Just curious really.

P.s. I’m not quite sure if this is the right board to but the letter came from the SEN team.

Some find it helpful, some don’t. It rather depends on the staff delivering it and the individual child’s needs.

I would ask to speak to the SENCO.

Thanks for replying. I thought that was probably the case about it depending on who is delivering and how it’s done. I think it’s good they can offer it with resources being so tightly squeezed.

I rang the Senco today to find out more but they weren’t available to speak. Will try again tomorrow.

My daughter is anxious about missing lessons but I figured that early on in Year 7 is a good time to do it. The transition from Primary can be challenging.

If you don’t get anywhere calling, try email.

Do you know if it is lesson time that will be missed? In some schools, it is form time.

It's during lesson time. Email is my next port of call if I can't get to speak to them.
