Refusing to send Ds to school.

My cousin has a 7 year old child who has never been to school.
he is non verbal and has autism. However he does say the odd word. His mum hardly talks at all so he will not learn from her. He does not have a father in the picture and she does not really have any friends. She point blank refuses to send him to a state school. It’s so sad as he has no children to play with. As far as I know he has an ehcp but she will only send him to a “special school” he is not being home schooled. She doesn’t go out as she is scared of catching bugs from people. I’m really troubled as I do not believe this to be healthy for the child. You can’t talk to the mum as she is very secretive and won’t listen to any form of advice from anyone. What should I do.? I’ve tried talking to my mum her Aunt but she has told
me to just stay out of it.

Your mum is right, stay out of it. This isn’t your business and you won’t know the details of the situation. She may well be fed up of ‘advice’ from people who don’t understand the system &/or that is actually judgements wrapped up pretending to be advice.

This sounds far more like a problem of the LA’s making rather than the parents.

You don’t know the mother isn’t pursuing a special school placement. The wait for a Tribunal hearing is long. She can request an expedited hearing but there is still a wait.

Some special schools are state schools.

Hang on a minute, is this a reverse or was your previous thread not actually about your DS?

Sorry which thread.

The only other thread you have started on MN under this name. The one you started in February of this year.

The one where you have a non-verbal autistic DS who isn’t attending school and isn’t EHE because you want an independent SS but the LA refused. With you saying you are quiet, no father in the picture, and family members who think he should be in school and you are making him worse.

So is this a reverse or was the other thread not actually about your DS?

You can suggest some help at home for the child so at least he does not have to stay in isolation.
