Hi, has anyone applied for dla for speech and language delay, we are on the waiting list for appointment it’s really affecting my girl now she’s 3.5 and it’s just so hard for her.
my next best step was apply for dla and hopefully get private speech and language for her , the only proof I can get is a letter of her health visitor and proof I have been referred to speech and language I just don’t no if this is enough

DLA is about quality of evidence rather than quantity. For some, a letter from the HV and the SALT referral would be enough. For others, it wouldn’t. It is based on needs (in comparison to typical DC the same age) rather than diagnosis, so for some the evidence you have would be enough and for others it wouldn’t be.

Does DD go to nursery? Do you have information from there? Does she have a SEN support plan? Have you requested an EHCNA? Have you spoken to the GP?

No there not starting nursery in September, they haven’t been doctors as I didn’t think it’s something for a doctor to deal with, I have just sat patiently for the slt to give a appointment but I feel I can’t just sit much longer and do nothing to help
