SEN schools East Grinstead

Hi, can anyone please help me with recommendations for state SEN schools around the East Grinstead area suitable for secondary age? Son has an EHCP and currently still waiting ASD diagnosis in the system. Social and communication skills are good, but academically at a level 3-4 years behind his peers.

SEN specialist school would suit his needs best, unless a mainstream school had a particularly excellent SEN programme, but the size and pace of a mainstream school would probably be too overwhelming - meaning he falls even further behind academically.

Really struggling to find options in this areas that aren't private.

Independent schools can be named in EHCPs and funded.

You will struggle to find a state SS for that profile and I think you are right or avoid state MS.

DS’s good social and communication skills make it more difficult to find a SS with similar peer group if DS would find a cohort with significant difficulties in that area tricky.

You could look at Aurora’s Caterham Education Centre. Though that might be swapping one type of overwhelm for another. If you get a diagnosis you could look at LVS Hassocks (although they may decline based on the academic level DS is working at).
