Potty training delayed 3yo help

Just after a bit of advice as I feel a bit lost.
My DS3 is showing no signs of wanting to potty or toilet train. He’s on the waiting list for an assessment for possible autism or a learning delay (seems about 12-18 months behind). He doesn’t understand all instructions that well and only talks on his terms, there’s no conversation.
Does anyone have any advice? I presume the answer might be to just wait until he’s ready.
Thanks x

Can he communicate in non-verbal ways? If you want to try, you could try taking DS to use to toilet at regular intervals.

My son has just turned four and is on the waiting list. He is still fairly non verbal but he will point at his nappy and go 'poo'. He also seems to be interested in the toilet. Just need to chat with nursery about starting. I don't think your son sounds ready yet? I wouldn't panic just yet.

He’s not showing any signs at all.
his understanding of things isn’t great. He doesn’t follow instructions that well.
He behaves mostly like a 2 year old I’d say. He isn’t non verbal but a lot doesn’t make sense and he talks in phrases.

It sounds like it could be hard work if you try now? Personally I would leave it until the summer if it were me and hopefully he might have more understanding. I would put my son about a year behind his age as well so they sound similar!

Thanks @Coffeeandbooks88 I am thinking there’s not much choice really, if he’s not ready then that’s it!
Does your son have a speech delay?

Yeah. He says a few words but very delayed. Almost non verbal.

I've got the same problem with my 3.5 year old. On the waiting list for assessment and basically non verbal. He'll try saying some words but not often and nowhere near understandable. Though his comprehension is great he just won't sit on a potty and is actively scared of the toilet. I know I'm being judged by people but unless you've been there then you really can't understand. Don't know what the answer is but just letting you know you're not alone😊
