Child Disability Payment?

Hi everyone. My six year old has just received his autism diagnosis. I was wondering about applying for Child Disability Payment but wasn't sure if he's eligible? The lowest level requirement seems to be:

  • needs help from another person, for much of the day, to manage their bodily functions
'Bodily functions' sounds to me like toileting etc. He's fully toilet trained and this isn't an issue of his, but it seems an ambiguous requirement so I was wondering if it gets approved on other grounds?

For context, this is not something we desperately need so not overly concerned if we aren't eligible. We aren't having any problems with bills. If it did get approved I'd probably use it to get him some private physio (awaiting NHS atm) as he's quite hypotonic. Can't currently stretch to this so would be helpful, but not in desperate need as I said.

Bodily functions doesn’t only cover things like toileting. For benefit purposes, it can mean things like dressing, eating, sleeping, speaking, etc. You might find this booklet helpful.
