Meeting with SEND facilitator

My son is in year 2 and has recently been put on SEN register as he is struggling. The teacher has told me to take him to the dr to
get a diagnosis (but she’s not sure what, he doesn’t fit neatly into any category possibly inattentive ADHD) My littlest son starts at this same school in September, he has a physical disability from having a birth injury. He will struggle to do what other children do but he can walk.
The school have offered meetings with their SEN facilitator, what sort of questions would you be asking? Both kids will have one plans by September.

I would request an EHCNA for DS2 and maybe DS1 depending on needs/what you mean by struggling.

Ask what support the school is providing for DS1? What have they already tried that hasn’t worked?

What will they provide for DS2? Do transition support will they offer? If DS2 needs any physical adjustments or equipment, have they organised that? Will DS need adjustments to the uniform? If your area still has a specialist teaching service, will they refer DS2?

I think further questions depend on what specifically DSs struggle with. For example, if DS struggles with lunchtime, you could ask if they have a quieter room/lunch club DC who are overwhelmed with the hall/playground can go or if they run clubs/groups at lunchtime. Or if they struggle with the start of the day, you could ask about arriving 5/10 mins early/late via a quieter entrance and if they have someone who could meet DS and do a soft start.

Thank you your reply is so helpful! I’ve made some notes much appreciated x
