Please help a mum out before I lose my mind.

My child 5 has just been diagnosed with ASD and awaiting ADHD assessment as almost 6. I had a meeting with their yr1 teacher who asked me what ASD is and what getting my child diagnosed achieves or what its purpose is. I wanted to scream and walk out.
I have sent countless emails to school to my childs teacher about all their school struggles, to the head teacher to the SENCO and family liason officer. My child currently has a one plan and EHCP is next on my list.
I dont even know where to begin with getting proper support. My child was over an hour late today due to meltdowns about school. They mask in school and blow up at home. Cant sleep due to worry and anxiety.
Its like fight or flight everyday for them in school.

Please any tips, help or advice on how to get school to do more. My child gets 10mins of regulation time on going into school and before home time but it doesnt always happen. They just shut down all day and then its like a bomb going off at pick up and for the whole evening.

I dont know what to do anymore.

Apply yourself for an ehcp by using ipsea website - the quicker you start the better don't wait for the senco you do it now.
Send a note to the doctor about what's happening (so its recorded as evidence) also highlight that they cant sleep.
Some schools are rubbish. Is there another school which is close that you like?

Obviously the school is the trigger for your child but any kids upsetting your child. Is it the noise etc. They should do more. Keep a diary of the behaviour this again its evidence.

Good luck

As pp said, you can request an EHCNA yourself. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

Request a meeting with the SENCO too. The school should be making their best endeavours to meet DS’s SEN and making reasonable adjustments.

Does DS take melatonin?

The school sound rubbish and the teacher sounds woeful (and I say that as a teacher). "What is ASD"? FFS. Only the most common form of SEN.

Please do request an ECHNA yourself and if anyone says anything that sounds discouraging, please run it by us on the support thread as we have all heard all the nonsense before!
