Lacking communication between school and home

Can anyone help me with advice regarding my grandson s lack of enthusiasm for year 1 when previously enjoyed going to nursery and reception. School have lied about many things and his mum is seriously considering moving him, he has ADHD and autism and his teacher considers him to be difficult, disruptive to the class, no complaints before this class

Lots of things could be happening!
Are you and his parents negative about school in front school of him? This will have an impact of his feelings about school.
How much positive communication and contact is there between school and home? Talk to the school SENCO constructively, ask how you can support the child and help him regain enthusiasm. Ask for some strategies if he is struggling with aspects of class one life.
Year one is often a big step up from reception, and it’s completely different to nursery! Lots of kids find that tricky to navigate to start with.
However It sounds like you dislike the school and teachers so a move maybe beneficial.

Some teachers are not very good maybe he had a better bond with his previous teachers. A good teacher can make a massive difference on children’s behaviour - some like firm and some like all the smiles.

Yr 1 start ticking now less play and more into learning to read / write etc

Try and move the child desks - sometimes people clash too.

Write everything in email then this is evidence. I’d want a weekly couple of lines.
Is a class change possible? If you really dislike the school and how they have handled the situation move before it gets worse.

Good luck

What changed between Reception and Year 1, other than the expectation of more work?

What is he finding difficult and how is the school supporting his needs.

I agree with @Acommonreader.

As others have said, there is a big jump between nursery and reception and Y1. Some struggle with the transition.

Has DGS’s DPs requested a meeting with the SENCO? The school should be providing support. DGS’s DPs can request an EHCNA if they want to.

If DGS has ADHD is he on medication?
