Hi everyone, looking for some advice and not so much judgement. In February this year I fled a dv relationship and was in temporary accommodation until June. I then got my forever home which the kids have been so settled in which is surprising as both of them are autistic and this year has been so chaotic for them! We are still not back on our feet and to be honest have just been making ends meet.
im paid on Tuesday 25th November but currently have absolutely nothing in the house for my autistic son to eat, we have just run out of his safe foods and unable to source any due to costs until pay day. I have been to the local food bank for myself and daughter and have scrapped up a meal tonight for us but there was just so little there to make a dinner for her. I’m really not bothered about myself in the slightest I can go without but I’m so embarrassed to be even posting this, I’ve went to universal credit and was refused an advance as I still have £68 to pay on my current one and I’ve also tried the Scottish welfare fund which my local authority told me to apply to and again was refused because I had a grant when in temporary accommodation. I’m really just looking to ask if anyone knows where I can turn to? I’ll be trying to food bank again tomorrow for my daughter but I’m sitting panicking about my son as he only eats specific foods due to his arfid. I feel like a failure as a mum and have reached out to family but unfortunately no replies (haven’t had contact with them since I was in a relationship with the kids dad). Any advice from anyone at all would be so appreciated. I’m grateful for the food bank helping but obviously I can’t request foods for my son. Thank you

You could reach out on local fb pages

I didn’t even think of that! I’ll have a look to see what groups are in my area. Thank you x

Speak to the food bank (and any other food banks near you). Some will buy certain food specifically for those who need specific items for medical reasons. Also, speak to any churches and temples nearby. And speak to DC’s school(s).

It is worth speaking to CAB or similar to check you are receiving all the benefits you are eligible for.
