Hi. This is my first ever post but I would like some advice. My daughter has a genetic condition, she is 10 years old but has the mental capacity of a 5 year old. She is very young for her years. She got an EHCP before she went to school and we decided mainstream was the way to go to start with. As she got older the gap between her and her peers was getting more noticeable and she was spending lots of time on her own with a TA out of the classroom. The school was fantastic with her. I finally got her a place at a special school, so in September she started there. Ive had my reservations since I first went to look around. Some of the children have really profound difficulties and can be quite frightening. The last time I have been up there police arrived to calm a boy that had kicked off. Another child was out in the corridor rolling around in the corridor screaming. My daughter doesn't have behaviour issues, she's just a quiet 5 year old in a 10 year old body. I received a phone call yesterday telling me one boy had pulled her trousers and knickers down in the corridor. I am absolutely devastated for her. I am so upset that I have made a very wrong decision by sending her to a special school. The problem is, she's in Yr 6 now and due to start secondary in September. The special school goes all the way through until they are 18. I'm really considering pulling her out of the special school, her old school have said she can go back, but I've no idea what to do for secondary provision. She definitely could not go to a mainstream secondary school.
I just want to hear others thoughts on my dilemma.
Thanks for reading x

Have you looked at other special schools?

Is DD in Year 5 or Year 6? If Y6, if you haven’t already this term, you should have a phase transfer review very soon, anyway. Just because the current school is an all-though school doesn’t change this. Y6 is still a phase transfer year and the current school may not be the one named for the phase transfer.

In the meantime, request a meeting with the current school. What are they doing to keep DD safe? It isn’t as simple as DD just moving back to her old mainstream school. You would need the EHCP amending.
