To ask if your language delayed possible add/adhd child went on to speak
fluent and conversational?
back story -
my son is 4 in October. He has been able to get needs and wants met verbally by the age of 2 consistently. He is building vocabulary now and can name alot of things, and can use language with verbs and nouns. Eg monkey is jumping. He can use sentences like ‘I want chocolate please mummy’ but sometimes requires prompting to use a sentence rather then just saying ‘chocolate’
we do have back and forth utterances and his understanding is greatly improved and can follow 2 step instructions consistent and had now started 3 step. we have private speech and language involved and was having weekly but is now 2 weekly as she believes he is doing so well. He is on the pathway for an assessment but our SLT doesn’t think he will meet criteria for asd but thinks he does have ADHD - inattentive type which has lead to language delay due to not picking up the language around him.
Generally I am very positive but I have moments where a proper conversation doesn’t feel within reach. Can anyone offer some positive experiences if your son is anything like mine. Socially he is getting better. He’s great with his brother and wants to engage with people around him. He will ask brother ‘Come on let’s play on trampoline’ Etc. I do suspect he may be a gestalt language processor.
thanks

this sounds exactly like my little boy, only turned 3 in May. Progressing with his speech but exactly how you said sometimes just says the word rather than the sentence, he does jump allot but we are going to see a private OT as cannot cope with the wait to see if an assessment is required,

@User21032033 hi lovely. What are you hoping to get from OT? are you UK based ? You might be better off seeking a private assessment if you cannot wait

Yes uk based. OT as my boy is sensory seeking aswell as the speech and to get professional opinion, she will be able to advice if assessment is required
