Opening shots in a very important campaign - https://www.theguardian.com/education/2025/jul/06/government-faces-battle-over-send-overhaul-as-campaigners-voice-fears. Open letter here - https://www.theguardian.com/education/2025/jul/06/the-right-to-an-education-health-and-care-plan-must-be-retained - and a campaign website here - https://www.saveourchildrensrights.org.uk

It's really noticeable that Bridget Phillipson is evading all questions about whether she plans to cut down access to EHCPs, and there is a stream of messages coming out blaming supposedly greedy parents for wanting their children to to be properly supported. We need to keep getting the message through to the government that there is nothing wrong with the current system IF it were funded properly and reasonable accountability were built in to ensure local authorities comply with it.

The right to an education, health and care plan must be retained | Letters

Letter: Jane Asher, Carrie Grant, Chris Packham, Anna Bird, Fazilet Hadi, Sally Phillips, Jon Sparkes and 100 others call on the government not to remove the right to an EHCP from children attending mainstream schools

I've just written to my MP using their template. I know he's interested in SEN but I don't know if he's aware of the (publicly available if you know where to look) statistic that our borough "export" around 20% of our SEN children to schools in other boroughs and have for many years.

I'm really sceptical about the DfE's claim that it's talking to parents' groups, when it clearly isn't talking to people who support parents like IPSEA, SNJ and SOS SEN.
