Transition from mainstream to specialist

DS has had his EHCP updated with a place at specialist named from September. Should I be contacting the new school? His current mainstream will contact them in the summer term about transition. I’m scared that after all the fighting there might be a communication error between the LA and specialist and he won’t be on their records 😂 I’m a worrier! Also, from peoples experiences, what’s transition like?

You don’t need to contact the new school, just feel relieved and celebrate your achievement.
The LA typically control new intakes and transfers.
The special school will have transition procedures in place but won’t want to start this too early.
If you haven’t visited with your son this could probably be arranged but September will feel a long way away for him.
Hopefully you will have fewer worries once he has settled in.

Don’t worry that DS is not on the school’s records! If it is named in section I, it must admit.

It depends on DS’s needs. For some, contact in the summer term wouldn’t be enough, so I would contact the school.
