Potential Asd- parenting

We are awaiting an asd assessment for our toddler. In the interim myself and husband are at loggerheads over how to parent. He wants to be far stricter with how we parent while i see a lot of apparent acting out down to sensory issues. We were advised through an informal discussion with services it sounds likely our child has asd though no way of course to clarify until assessment. Ive also discussed with my parents who dont seem to believe in neurodiversity. Not sure if anyone has been through similar whilst awaiting and any advice.

Of course you're right OP, you can't punish the autism out of a child. Lots of routine and structure will really help, lots of quiet, calm time rather than racing around being busy with him all day and recognise his triggers and preempt them as much as you can. Warnings about any changes in activity and giving him time to finish what he is doing will help too as he gets older.

Take small steps, if he won't have his hair cut right now take him to watch his dad getting his hair cut. If he finds the supermarket overwhelming when it's busy then only go at a really quiet time for now. So don't shut down your and his life to avoid him having a melt down as it's really important that he gets used to every day life - but try to do it in a way that he can cope with.

Would DH read The Out of Sync Child book and this booklet about sensory differences?

@Jade520 thank you - good advice for still trying to do the regular things. We did have a major melt down after a hair cut lately. I dread going to do things like this and need to get myself with better knowledge to deal.
