Hello, hoping someone might be able to give me some advice…
My dd is at college, doing a Level 1 child development course, because she didn’t pass GCSE maths and English at school last year. (She did however pass Level 2 child development, but college won’t allow her to do a L3 without maths and English).
Alongside her L1 course, she is also having maths and English lessons at college, in order to retake them at the end of the year.
She has an EHCP.
English seems to be going reasonably well atm, but maths is a bit of a disaster…
College are teaching her Functional Maths Level 1 (even though at school she got a grade 2 at GCSE, which is equivalent to a Level 1), but now her maths teacher is saying she needs to move down to Entry Level 3 maths. I don’t understand this when she already has a Level 1 equivalent pass! It feels like she is going backwards tbh.
My question is, can I somehow get her EHCP to pay for EXTRA maths tuition at college? (We are already paying for an hour of private tuition ourselves, but it’s just not enough). Previously at school, her EHCP funded almost full time 1-1 support for her. Her funding was apparently reduced when she started college because college hours are slightly less (fair enough). She struggles to learn in a class group, even a small group, and does much better 1-1.
She has her heart set on a career working in childcare, but without L2 maths she is unable to do the L3 course that she will need…
