Does anyone know the rules around claiming long term ssp and carers alongside it??

Currently working but DS (4 and autistic) lack of sleep over the last 12 months has killed us, barely functioning. We are awaiting sleep clinic but it's on average 2-3 hours of broken sleep a night and I don't feel like we can carry on.

I'm making mistakes at work, always crying just feel crap!! Not working isn't an option financially but I was wondering if I was to go on long term sick (so I can at least get some sleep in the day) could I also claim carers along side it?? We recieve high rate DLA for DS as his care needs are quite high. He isn't verbal and his understanding is around 12-18 months so no sense of danger etc.

Any advice welcome or any similar situations and how you got through them?? I've never claimed benefited or been out of work but not sure how much longer I can keep going

SSP and CA are not overlapping benefits, so you can get both at the same time (assuming you qualify for them, obviously).

If you aren’t already claiming UC, check that too. If you are already claiming UC, check you have all the right elements, including the carer element and severely disabled child element.
