My LB is 6, he has SEN and is non verbal but uses Makaton. We seem to be going through an awful stage of generally refusing most things from getting dressed to leaving the house (even for fun things). He seems to see red and gets himself so worked up - the tantrums are next level and he's getting too big to carry. Is this just a bad phase.. any tips? My back is in bits and I'm sooo over it but also feel I'm failing as a parent. We've had such a lovely day today then a hellish bedtime and I feel it's ruined a lovely day for us both.

Tantrum or meltdown?

Have you tried some PDA strategies? Have you tried keeping a detailed diary to spot triggers? Some people find the book The Explosive Child helpful.

For leaving the house, do you have a wheelchair or SN buggy? Some people find a big hood, ear defenders/noise cancelling headphones and sunglasses help.
