Ds aged 6 asd. With costly legal help managed to get him into a special school this year and for a while things were going well, limited speech but improving and happy. More recently it's become unbearable, he shreiks, screams, stamps and cries at anything. He's got limited speech so we don't always understand why. We have very limited family support due to age of grandparents. We've applied for PA support with LA and awaiting assessments. I work long shifts in a busy noisy stressful environment and I feel like I have just near constant noise! I have applied for lots of jobs over the past 18 months without a single interview. I'm on antidepressants. Dh is fab but we're struggling. I can't see a way forward. I can't change my hours and don't know what point of this is almost but I'm really hoping this is a phase?!

Have you tried noise cancelling headphones for you? They could help.

What support, including therapies, is DS receiving?

When you say DS started special school this year, do you mean this academic year or earlier this calendar year? If this academic year, it is still very, very early days.

Some people find the books The Explosive Child and the Out of Sync Child helpful.

How long have you been waiting for assessments from children’s services? Chase them. Also look at your local short breaks offer.

Can you afford to take parental leave? It is unpaid but will give you some breathing space. Or even getting a fit note and taking some sick leave.
