Would this be a typo

DS attends a SS and is Year 4. I’ve noticed on the school
calendar in the spring they have a meeting about high school options for Year 4 and 5 but surely they mean Year 5 and 6?

No, not a typo.

Spring of Y6 is far too late to be considering secondary options. EHCPs have to be amended to name secondary placement by 15th Feb of Y6. Phase transfer reviews should take place in the Autumn term of Y6.

Just thinking where a child is in Year 4 could change by Year 5 or 6 in terms of ability and the schools that would take them may change as well?

Of course a child can change, but around or even less than 18 months until phase transfer review is the appropriate time to start thinking about secondary. You aren’t applying for schools in Y4, you are starting to think about it.

Unless the school is wholly independent, you don’t need an offer of a place.
