My child is in KS1, high functioning and academically capable. Nonetheless he is on the spectrum and has various traits that greatly impact his life and wellbeing, that might not be noticed while he masks at school or only presents at home.
Whyyyyyy does the occasional self-proclaimed “SEN MUM” tell me my child isn’t “disabled enough” or is high functioning so doesn’t need support, or that we shouldn’t be “bothering” charities for advice and signposting etc..
Surely in 2024 it’s accepted that neurodiverse conditions are on a spectrum, not a scale.
I just feel utterly defeated and depleted by the same “SEN MUM” who apparently has the worlds first and only most autistic child ever who is the only child ever entitled to utilise any provision set up to support autistic children :(
