Morning all,
My 4 year old has started reception really well and loves school. We’re in a bit of a dilemma as he has been offered a place on an alternative catch up provision for reception children from November - Easter for those with mild to moderate communication/speech and language needs. The local authority run this provision to hopefully get these kids up to speed in preparation for Year 1 where things get a little more serious. He would be in a class of 12 with 3 staff members so there is a lot of support before transitioning back to his primary school over Easter.
I was wondering if any other mums have thoughts on what would be best to do in this situation. He has a fantastic reception teacher currently and is making good progress academically. He just struggles at times to communicate with others to the same level as most of his peers. At parents evening yesterday, his teacher said he plays a lot of chasing games with others as it’s the easiest thing for him to communicate. He’s such a happy boy, has lovely friends and seems to be making progress which makes the decision so much harder as I know additional support opportunities are few and far between (secondary school teacher here). Any musings would be appreciated!
