Adhd diagnosis before age 6?

I am a curious SENCO who has always been told that the NHS can't/won't diagnose adhd until age 6.

Have any parents had a different experience? We often have parents asking, so it would be interesting if anyone has had an earlier diagnosis, or knows of whether the "not before 6" is real.

Many HCPs (NHS and independent) won’t assess/diagnose before 6, however you may want to read the NICE guidelines because it isn’t in there and the guidelines actually mention DC 5 and under.

We have been told not before 6 by several practitioners, both NHS and private. But I also know a family friend had a DC diagnosed and medicated at 4/5. It was a severe case and there were other factors involved.

I did get some good support from ADHD Embrace though, even without a diagnosis, and I think they also work with schools.
