DS refusing to continue education post 16

He has Autism and ADHD he is adamant he will not stay at school or go to college or any kind of training post 16. He turns 16 next June. He says he is going to be a YouTuber.

He has been saying this for months now, he is at a SEN school, he has a spiky profile ( eg he is excellent at mental arithmetic but struggles with fractions) .

I had been hoping that thing would improve once he starts on ADHD meds ( we are on the waiting list) , but he is now saying he ‘ won’t take them’. His behaviour can be very challenging.

We have an ECHP review coming up, and really don’t know what to do. Any advice is most welcome.

What about a package of provision targeting his interests? A gaming AP? A qualification looking at gaming/animation(whatever his specific interest is). So DS remains in education but it is education that doesn’t look like traditional education.

@EndlessLight yes that it a thought, he gets too angry and fustrated with gaming , but I think some kind of IT video editing course would be good. But he is just not willing to engage with anything, and has been the same for a while.

I have been flagging up my concerns to school and SW for a while, I think the school will be ( secretly) pleased to see the back of him, he is one of their most disruptive pupils.

I have been in touch with a SEN 16+ college, and we have been invited to a forthcoming Open day, but he flatly refuses to go.
