What is “normal” for year 1 support? Just wondering what other schools offer?

my son is in year 1 and they have the teacher and a part time LSA in the AMs and a floating LSA between two classes in the PM - is this normal for x30 5 year olds?

Teaching assistants are becoming fewer and fewer, unless there is targeted support for a specific child or children with additional needs, either before or as a result of EHCP provision.

There isn’t one normal.

The infant class size regulations state there must be 1 teacher for 30 pupils. Although some DC are excepted pupils so the class may actually be over 30 without being in breach of the regulations.

There are no rules about TA/LSA support unless a child has an EHCP detailing, specifying and quantifying such support.

Many schools can’t afford TA/LSA support without an EHCP in place.
