Sleep asd and tablets/ipad

Hi

We have recently received our ASD diagnosis for our 5 year old. The peads has advised that DD doesn't sleep because of use of the iPad, they have advised that if she goes to sleep with the iPad when she wakes up in the night she will want the iPad again and this is what's keeping her awake.

I have found that whilst DD is not asleep it does help her calm down and stay in her room and bed and stops her climbing and running around we are doing a trial run of getting rid of it for bed time and she has gone to bed at 7:30 tonight but has been up 11 times. We are finding this really hard and it seems she is more unsettled but this maybe because she isn't used to it

Has anyone found their child is better without their iPad?

We don’t allow screens at bedtime. It works for us. Nighttime is difficult for DS1 and we tried screens to see if that improved the situation. It didn’t help so we stopped.

Some find devices helpful. Others don’t. I think it is worth persevering with no iPad for a while to see if there is improvement. Especially if you want to try medication to aid sleep because some won’t prescribe until good sleep hygiene practices have been tried.
