Help with Autistiv DD behaviours

Hello,

My DD is 5. I need help with how to redirect her or help her with some behaviours.

  • she will spit on the floor and other things, at our most recent SLT appointment she became a bit manic and was spitting on the SLT's paperwork and licking the floor. She was laughing and not listening
  • if she has a runny nose she will also rub that on things purposely even though she knows to use a tissue
  • she will sing the same song over and over- usually when we are on the bus
  • she asks the same questions every.single.day "school today?" "Who's taking me?" "Who's picking me up?" Even though it is very consistent and we will always tell her if it will be different (v.rarely)

There are more but all of the above are the ones that i would like to understand more about and help her with.

Making a timetable (visual or written) for DD may help, so she knows what/when/who without needing to ask. The questions may be for reassurance.

Is singing the same song a problem? If the problem is actually DD being too loud on the bus, would DD understand she can sing the song before you get on/when you get off, but you have to be quieter on the bus? You could take a book/small toy/let DD listen to music or an audio book via headphones.

Spitting can fulfil a sensory need for some. Has DD had a sensory OT assessment? Does she have a chewy toy? Does she have some slime that she can throw on the floor and pick up? Some find spitting increase as anxiety does. DD may have been anxious during the appointment, which could have led to the increase in spitting.

Not using a tissue is quite common in young children. As disgusting as that is. I think you just have to keep reiterating tissues are used.
