School transport

Hi everyone,
My daughter has been offered a place at a wonderful school and the LA have agreed to fund (appeal was in but they conceded).
They had offered her a place at an ASD hub which my daughter completely refused to go to (it really was unsuitable for her).

Anyway, I have just applied for transport (from September) but I fear they will say no as they felt the hub could meet her needs (closer to us).

The school new school is now named in her EHCP. There are other children in our area who get a taxi and who got a place at the school on an appeal and get transport.

It's 17 miles away from our home address. We both work full time.

Is this going to be our next battle?!

If the school is named in section I of the EHCP without a caveat about transport and you haven’t signed a separate document about transport, the LA cannot use the hub as a reason not to provide transport.

If the school is named in I with a caveat/another school alongside of you have signed a separate document about transport, you can still challenge it. If this happens this page is worth reading - SENTAS can help you if you need help.

Oh wonderful, thank you. I school is named in section I without a caveat and I haven't had to sign a separate document 🙂 What a relief

If the LA refuses transport, it will more likely be because DD is below compulsory school age. If they do though, you can appeal. Less likely if there is already transport arrangements for others locally, DD can join.
