Early AR

I've just called an early AR for my year 4.

School (SENco and head) are saying she's happy and settled and I should try more 1-1 time with her as the problem is clearly home.

The feedback coming back in her communication book doesn't reflect a happy child, if you read it it reflects a fairly miserable child. Her behaviour is slowly declining, I'm aware there are behavioural incidents requiring SLT to be called but I have no idea what as school aren't telling me. She's spending less and less time in class and she is incredibly socially isolated, having just alienated a friendship that she was so so excited about developing in March.

School are clearly aggravated I've called an early AR. School are aggravated I'm saying she's struggling, the head told me me saying she's struggling repeatedly is me saying they aren't doing a good enough job.

I think she needs a fresh EP report. Her last one was done when she was in reception. I think there needs to be a specific focus on social skills, self-esteem and generally coming to terms with her differences as that is the main thing that has changed rapidly. She has become very aware she is different and no one likes her.

Any tips for the AR and how to get on the same page as school?

The HT may not listen, but I would try to explain ^this isn’t the case (as long as you think that, of course). Lay out the evidence showing DD isn’t happy, the behavioural difficulties, less time in the classroom, etc. despite the support the school is giving DD. A child who is isolated, spending less time in the classroom and displaying behavioural difficulties isn’t ‘fine’ no matter what the school thinks.

If you think an EP assessment is required, have you requested a reassessment of needs or do you expect to need to appeal and will seek an independent assessment when appealing?

Has DD had SALT and OT assessments?
