Scouts and the neckerchief

My son has a sensory thing with his neckerchief at squirrels(4-6 yr old scouts), I can't get he to wear it as soon as I got it out he screams no and runs off, the den(group) understand and don't make him wear it but I would like some ideas on things to try to get him to wear it. If only for group events if nothing else

He has/dose have sensory issues mostly smell and touch but he's never smelt or touched the neckerchief

Honestly, it is not worth stressing over! Most leaders that I know won't care and would much rather they were comfortable. Particularly at group events where there are lots of other people and they are likely to be more stressed anyway, it is not worth it!

I think sometimes just leaving it lying around for a while so they get used to it - gentle questioning can sometimes help to understand what is bothering them about it.

One option is to sew it onto the jumper / polo so it is not touching their neck. We have also in the past slept with clothing so it smells right 😁

I hadn't though of the smell, I'll try washing it with are washing powder, I is new so I didn't think of that.

The den understand and they are not pressuring him into anything they can see he loves squirrels
