Hi - just wondering if anyone’s child has progressed through the gestalt stages through to natural language acquisition? My son is apparently stage 2. He is 7 but I’m not sure how much I buy into the gestalt and wondered if anyone had any success?

I'm a teacher of SEND children. I've only really learnt about GLP this year, but it makes perfect sense for one of my 10-year-olds. His language was extremely limited until recently. He was very quiet due to lack of communication skills. Loved Bob the builder but didn't know what a builder was. He would sometimes use phrases clearly from videos to explain things - not always clear to others but obviously made sense to him. But in the last 2 months, he has started to make links in understanding and is learning words at a rapid rate and massively increasing his communication abilities. Nothing in particular has facilitated this. He just seems ready now. It's lovely to watch - he's so happy with himself. I hope the same comes to your son when he's ready.

It made complete sense for my ds... we tried a lot of early speech and language techniques that didn't seem to help as soon as I understood a bit more about this I helped him by modelling gestalts for day to day situations and spent a lot of time trying to work out what he was saying and showing him I understood. We will never know whether that was the reason for his progress but at the very least we connected in a way we never had before so it definitely didn't hurt.
