EHCP section D social care

Hi everyone

what does section D process involve on the EHCP and what can I expect? Feel really stressed (I suffer with anxiety). I’ve had previous involvement with SS but case was closed after initial assessment (NFA). It may sound stupid but will this come up on the EHCP form or will it be disregarded? (It’s not related to child’s SEN).

All social care needs should be in D. An assessment with NFA wouldn’t have to be in there. To see what a good assessment should look at read this booklet, but LAs often pay lip service to seeking advice and information from social care during the EHCNA process.

@Headfirstintothewild thank you for advising. I will have a look into that leaflet, thanks :)
I had the case closed forms and it was all really positive, no concerns etc. so just to clarify if there hasn’t been any previous CIN/CP plans etc it probably won’t be included? Just a new assessment really on current needs etc?

The previous involvement resulting in NFA (almost certainly but can never say 100%) won’t be in D. It may be mentioned briefly in the report for the new assessment.

@Headfirstintothewild thank you:)do you have any insight as to what should I expect in a new assessment?

The booklet I linked to explains what an assessment should cover and the types of support that can be provided. Think about things like how you/DC manage at home, how you access the community, school/getting there/home, how you manage outside of term time, any equipment that is needed, how DC socialise/take part in sports/leisure activities.
