DLA payment

Hi,

I claim DLA for my son, higher rate care, lower rate mobility. This morning I received a payment for 2 weeks worth instead of the usual 4 when the amount isn’t actually due for another 2 weeks. I will need to put in a new claim from April onwards so is this why? It’s just confused me as I wasn’t expecting any money today. I’ve tried calling but just got put on hold and now they have closed. I will have to try again tomorrow.

Why will you have to make a new claim in April? Do you mean a renewal and the current award ends? If so, you should have already had renewal forms to complete and send back. The 2 week payments often happen at the end of the award so you need to call to ask for forms to be re-sent to you (if you haven’t already submitted (and checked they were received) renewal forms).

Hi thanks for your message, yes I mean a renewal but I haven’t had a renewal pack. I was expecting one and when I saw this payment I panicked and thought maybe it’s too late. They usually send out a renewal to remind you don’t they? I have renewed once before but as it is every two years I couldn’t quite remember how it works. Hopefully I will be able to get in touch with them today.

For renewals you usually receive forms a few months before the end of the current award, but Royal Mail problems mean they aren’t always being relieved and I’m afraid it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure they get are.

Currently sat on hold for the third time today trying to get in touch. I’ve checked online and I should have had a renewal pack 20 weeks before the end of current award 🙄
