Anyone claimed DLA without diagnosis

I’m just wondering if it’s possible to claim DLA without a diagnosis of autism. DS4 is under SALT through nursery and is getting extra support there. I haven’t yet gone down the route of seeking a diagnosis but have reports from SALT and nursery detailing his difficulties.

The reason I ask about DLA is DS needs close supervision and help with certain things, for example he’s been in swimming lessons for over a year and I’ve had to move swim schools a few times as he cannot cope with very noisy/boisterous classes or classes with a lot of children and he needs a lot of one to one interaction with the teacher. I was really happy with his current class as there were only three children and he was doing better but the class had recently tripled and things have gone downhill. I feel like he would really benefit from one to one lessons but I’m not in a position to afford them at the moment which is where I was thinking DLA may help.

The swimming is just one example. Does anyone have any experience?

DLA is based on needs, not diagnosis.

The Cerebra guide is helpful when completing the form.
