That's it really. ..ds 19 got a 3 in his retake (November)
He got a 3 in June ...

(I personally think a 3 is fantastic considering what he has been through!)

But ...what should we do now ?
.try again In June ?

How close to a 4 was DS? What does DS want to do? What support is he receiving?

Does DS have an EHCP and what is he doing at the moment (e.g. colleges, apprenticeship…) because the rules depend on the answers to those.

@KeepGoingThomas ...I am so sorry !
I have only just noticed your reply...this post has slipped too far down on my list !!

He has found out that he was 1 mark !!! Off 😢!

It is going for a remark or whatever it is called ...

No need to apologise!

How frustrating. I will keep my fingers crossed the review results in an extra mark. If it doesn’t I think it would be worth re-entering for the summer series to keep the momentum.

My DD could cope.with Maths but couldn't get the English. Has now swapped to.do functional.English level 2 which seems to.suit her more. Might be worth looking at as level 2 is equivalent to GCSE 4+.

..also can take over and over all year round!

@onanotherday thank you for your reply .

I am unsure if his college does functional skills 2 .

He did and passed FS 1 for both English and Maths.

Then went straight into GCSE .

He passed his maths in the 1 year.

I think he is determined to get this elusive English now ! ...so that is a good motivator !

He was out of educational settings for 3 years due to various reasons ...
So this is still progress for us !

I did mention the FS 2 to him ...then we found out how close he was !

It may not be as simple as DS taking functional skills. It will depend on specifics, which is why I asked if DS has an EHCP and what he is doing at the moment.

The 16-19 funding regulations apply until 25 for those with an EHCP. So, if he has an EHCP and is at college he will be expected to resit GCSE because they state those with a 3 should work towards GCSE not FS. There are limited exemptions for those with SEN, but that is unlikely to apply to someone 1 mark off a 4 because it states “Students with SEND and who have achieved a GCSE grade 3, grade D or equivalent qualification in maths and/or English should be capable of improving their GCSE grade with the right teaching and support.”

Also, if DS has an EHCP it isn’t so relevant what the college provide because and provision required can, if necessary, be delivered otherwise than at college or by individual tuition in college.
