Autism assessment

So dd3 has a few autism traits. Nursery have agreed to refer her for an assessment they've advised me the only way they can do it is through speech and language even though she doesn't have any problems with her speech and language.
They've also advised me it will be quicker if I went through her gp.

Does anybody have any advice regarding this and how long the whole process will take?

They've told me they are fully onboard with her referral and will get it done this week but to try her gp as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about the referral to SLT although they managed to completely miss that both of mine are ND. I'd accept the referral to SLT but also go through your GP.

I'm a SLT... while I'm not trained to do ASD assessments, most of my colleagues are and it's actually a SLT colleague of mine who oversees all the diagnostic pathway for our team - just because she has the capacity to do it and the ability to wrangle up various different professional disciplines to crack on with the waiting list at times.

Also, however able she is in terms of her speech and language - if she is autistic, she's going to have difficulties in the areas of social communication in some form or other as one half of the "dyad of impairments" (used to be the triad but they've combined two into one) which means SLT as a starting point is a good plan. Hell I'm incredibly articulate, function well professionally but I'm also a diagnosed autistic (I scored impressively highly on it as well - so my masking was not as good as I assumed it was) and have social communication difficulties that I've partly learnt to work around, and partly have a cracking group of colleagues who just accept me for who I am and that socially sometimes I fuck it up.
