DD (11) has ASD. She bright, funny, kind. She has no friends. Part of the problem is that her interests are very narrow, and she is extremely intense about them. She also has massive anxiety and its just impossible to get her to do anything outside of school (school is a whole other thread - lots of Emotion Based School Refusal etc) because its too much for her.
Last night I think that she realised that she doesn't have friends, and that she wants them. However, we just haven't been able to explain to her that friendships are give and take and that sometimes you have to talk about things that don't interest you much, but do your friends. What's made it worse is that she did have two friends, and I think they've outgrown her and seem to have gone off as a pair. She's heartbroken and I just don't know how to help her.
