I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a special school that may be suitable for my son please. We’ve just had a yes to assess for EHCP so I’m thinking ahead in case we get to this point.
My son is 5, autistic with traits of PDA.
His behaviour at home is very up and down- when dysregulated he is aggressive and impulsive, will hit, throw things, refuse to engage, avoids demands etc. He has problems with loud noises, particularly multiple people talking, and does a lot of sliding and crashing, sensory seeking behaviour. He loves football and plays a lot, sometimes indoors just to be able to slide and drop to the floor repeatedly.
He masks all of his struggles at school and is a “role model“ in behaviour etc. He’s also very smart, and despite the school avoidance we’re experiencing this year (8 days off in the first half term) he’s totally on track academically and amazing at maths.
He masks to the point of refusing accommodations like movement breaks etc at school, as he doesn’t want to appear different to anyone else or admit he needs help, he is even reluctant to ask for a drink or to use the toilet, which is why I’m thinking a specialist school may end up being required, depending on what the EP report says, of course.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a school which may be able to cater to his needs please?
