Has anyone's Dc eventually got words and gestures after 24mths? Or is it simply Asd after that point?
Dd is loving , smiling , sleeps eats well but doesn't have any gestures bar hi5, I must try to teach her more. She has decent eye contact, recognises her name but no words as yet apart from sounds that may not necessarily be babbling.

Your experiences would be appreciated from a v worrying mother

Lack of speech doesn’t definitely equal ASD, but even if DD does have autism it doesn’t mean she won’t develop speech.

Has DD been referral for assessment? Has she seen SALT?

We are in waiting list for SALT atm and apparently the list is a year long in hounslow Borough, so I await it.

My likely autistic 3 year old suddenly started speaking in full sentences a couple of months after his 3rd birthday. Before then it was a struggle to get single words out of him.

No single words until he was 2.5 either.

Wow that gives me hope,I thank you immensely. I've been worried out of my hair as there's not a single word yet

I sang a lot of songs to him as he liked that. He especially liked row row row your boat. I would then stop at a random point and wait for a sign that he wanted me to continue (eye contact or gesture) and then start singing again.

O ! Im doing the same! I do about 6 different nursery rhymes every evening, stop , encourage some indication and then carry on. Thank you so much!
