Schools for “moderate” ASD - do they exist?

I’ve visited all of the SEN schools local to me and they have all been for children with profound and complex difficulties.

The couple of schools I’ve visited for more “higher functioning” autism have been too advanced for DS.

DS is in a sort of awkward, in-between area (ability-wise) and I’m really struggling to find a suitable school. He’s currently in a mainstream with 1:1 support but it’s becoming apparent that he needs specialist input outside of mainstream.

Are there any schools that cater to children with moderate learning disabilities / autism? Willing to travel anywhere in the country but London would be best.

Thanks.

You can search for schools here. You can filter by type of SEN, including by ASD and MLD.

Have you looked at Abingdon House? They cater for autistic pupils who don’t necessarily fit into a more academic school.

MLD schools exist, and a proportion of their pupils will also have ASD.

Be aware if you move LA, the new LA will review the EHCP and potentially amend, reassess or even cease to maintain. Obviously, you will be able to appeal, but it is still something you need to be aware of.
