When is the best time to first try ADHD medication?

As in would a weekend be enough time to see the effects / any side effects or am I better off waiting for a week in the next half term?
Im really unsure about all of it to be honest but DS has asked to try it to see if it helps him focus better in school and at 13 I feel I need to listen to his voice

Ideally on days with lessons with teachers who know him really well (as asking for feedback could be useful?). If he wants to use it in school that's where you need to try and it. He will get less of a sense of effect on the weekend if very different demands are being made of his executive functioning.

Unless you just want to rule out major reactions/let him see what it feels like to have it on board, in which case you can't beat Nigella's approach of trying peanut butter for the first time whilst in the GP's surgery. Grin

We started it off on a school day but I would say you could do either.

I would say that in our experience you'll need to have titrated up over a number of weeks before you're likely to see much difference in focus.

DD (14) only feels that there's a big shift there in last couple of weeks and that's with 3rd increase and having started them last term (big break over summer).

FWIW, starting meds has been incredible from day 1 - but she needs as much help with the hyper side as the inattentive side.

Spends on which medication, mine is on a daily she only take on school days, but agree a school day is good to get feedback from a couple of teachers.
