Also posted on another topic so excuse the double post if you’ve already seen it!
Hi everyone - I’m not sure if this is the right place to post but I feel like I’m spiralling and would really love some advise / reassurance on what I’m going through with my almost 10 month old.
In the past few weeks I’ve noticed my DD has started acting as if she’s in her own world - not responding, not interested in her surroundings and no longer looking at me. I’ve pulled together the main points below:
- Doesn’t react to any sounds even though I know she can hear. I can literally clap, yell, click behind her head and she doesn’t turn (also confirmed by GP). I know she can hear as I turn off her white noise to wake her up from naps. She will also turn her head if I play something on my phone out of sight.
- Poor eye contact unless she’s in her high chair eating.
- No longer laughs (or if she does it’s VERY hard to get out of her)
- Smiles are very infrequent for me. She will still smile at strangers.
- Hardly babbles anymore - I probably hear one or two mama / babas / dadas a day.
I’ve been to see a GP who has referred us to get her hearing checked. I’m doubtful this will amount to anything given I know she can hear from various ‘tests’ I’ve done at home.
Also should note that she likes to play with toys in a usual manner, is crawling, enjoys interacting with our dog and loves her food. She also sleeps well.
Is there anyone out there that has experienced something similar at this age? Particularly with not responding to any sounds despite knowing they can hear? I’m incredibly worried given she’s so young to be exhibiting signs and would love to ensure we head on the right path to get her the help she needs.
thanks in advance for any replies :)
