Dyslexia tutor paid for as part of EHCP

My child is about to start year 8. They have had an EHCP since start of Yr 7. The annual review was at the start of July and I have heard nothing from the school or LA since the review meeting. I spoke to a dyslexia tutor recently as we feel our child needs some specialist dyslexia support. I mentioned to the SENCo at the review meeting that there is no specific dyslexia support taking place and he said some staff would be having training but it was quite vague. The tutor I spoke to said if a child has an EHCP then they would normally come to the school and do a tutoring session during the school day which would be funded by the EHCP. Before I contact the SENCo I was wondering how I can go about finding out if funding for a tutor can be paid for as part of their EHCP. Before my child had an EHCP they had a tutor at primary school which we paid for. School doesn't start until the end of the week so I would like get some advice if anyone has any about this?

Following the AR the school should have circulated a report within 2 weeks. Within 4 weeks the LA should have informed you whether they were going to amend or not and if they were sent the amendment notice. If they were going to amend they should have finalised within a further 8 weeks. Email the Director of Children’s Services reminding them of their duties. If that doesn’t work email again threatening judicial review. Then, if that fails contact SOSSEN for help with a pre-action letter.

EHCPs can include specialist tuition, but you will need evidence and it may take an appeal.
