Hi just looking for some advice really, my daughter (6) has recently been diagnosed with DLD. She is on the schools SEN and they are applying for a EHCP in September. She is starting year 2 in September but is basically ready for year 1 so she is working a year behind. She has been working with speech and language and has made a lot of improvement with her speech but now they are referring her again for her language. DLD is completely new to me, I work in the school as a TA she is at and a lot of the other TA’s haven’t really came across DLD which is concerning. Anyone who has any advice or can share their story would be great.
thanks :)

My advice is to learn everything about the EHCP process. LAs and schools often tell you what they want you to know and their version of the law. IPSEA and SOSSEN’s websites are good places to start, as well as reading the SENCOP.

You can request an EHCNA yourself. IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

I would really recommend the CPD sessions offered by Moor House: Moor House School & College - DLD Information & Training. It's aimed at professionals and is a bit dry but they are so knowledgeable.
This is aimed more at the kids themselves but really down to earth: Developmental Language Disorder | DLD and Me.
Finally, sort of in-the-middle is:
