Hi Everybody,

Just looking for some friendly advice please! I have a 6 year old son and have concerns which I've had for a while but all seems to be coming to a head now.

I'm just going to list all my concerns:

Emotional breakdown after school, need to be put into his bedroom to calm down, when he comes down he seems to be better.
Sensitive to bright lights
Sensitive to smells
Says sounds hurt him
Still at 6 struggles with toileting (It's like he doesnt understand the feeling of needing the toilet)
Poor attention span - day dreamer
VERY poor short term memory, amazing long term memory
Poor motor skills such as feeding self, dressing self etc
Poor coordination
Doesn't like the feel of certain clothing, usually cheaper clothing/Jeans. He describes them all as itchy and will have a breakdown if I try to make him wear something thats itchy.

There are probably other things but my mind has gone blank. I'm personally thinking there could be some sensory issues but beyond that I'm unsure - does anybody have any similar children and could offer an insight/advice. I'm also not sure where to start when looking for advice, school/GP?

Thank you :)

I think you need to seek a referral for further assessment and also to OT, SALT, and the continence service. For some of these, in some areas you can self refer, if you can’t in your area the GP or school will be able to.

What support is the school providing? The coke bottle effect you describe isn’t uncommon.
